Welcome to Chalk-Walrus. These terms are written in plain English because we believe you should understand what you are agreeing to.

1. What Chalk-Walrus Does

Chalk-Walrus is a classroom communication tool. Teachers upload knowledge about their classroom (schedules, policies, curriculum info), and parents can ask questions through an AI-powered chat. The AI answers only from the teacher's uploaded information.

2. Your Data, Your Ownership

You own everything you upload. We do not claim any ownership of your content.

All content you upload (text, files, schedules, policies) remains your property.
We store it only to provide the service.
You can delete your content at any time from the dashboard.

3. We Do Not Sell or Share Your Content

Your uploaded content is never sold to third parties.
Your content is never shared with other teachers or organizations.
Parent chat conversations belong to the teacher whose knowledge base was used.

4. No AI Training on Your Content

            Your content is never used to train AI models. It is only used to answer parent
            questions in real-time, then discarded from AI context.
        

5. Privacy: Data Isolation

Each teacher's knowledge base is completely separate.
Parent chat data is per-teacher and never cross-pollinated between accounts.
Parent conversations are anonymized (IP addresses are hashed, never stored raw).

6. Teacher Responsibilities

As a teacher using Chalk-Walrus, you agree:

Do not upload sensitive student records (grades, IEPs, disciplinary records, health information, or any personally identifiable student data).
Only upload classroom-level information appropriate for parent access (schedules, policies, curriculum overviews, supply lists, event info).
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you upload.

7. Data Deletion

You can delete individual knowledge chunks, files, or entire sections at any time.
If you close your account, all your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
Deletion includes all uploaded content, files, conversations, and profile information.

8. Security

Data is stored on Cloudflare's global infrastructure with encryption at rest.
Passwords are hashed using PBKDF2 with 100,000 iterations (never stored in plain text).
API keys are encrypted with AES-GCM before storage.
Sessions use HttpOnly, Secure cookies to prevent token theft.

9. Service Provided "As Is"

Chalk-Walrus is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep the service running and your data safe, but we cannot guarantee 100% uptime or that AI responses will always be perfectly accurate. The AI is limited to the information you upload and will decline to answer questions it cannot address from your knowledge base.

10. Changes to These Terms

If we make significant changes to these terms, we will notify registered users via the dashboard. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
